BOOKS ON THANUOLOGY
(VARMAM)
(by Prof. Dr. S.
Chidambarathanu Pillai)
The origin of
Thanuology (Varmam): Siva, charged with the task of
destruction, offered the martial arts to the illustrious Tamil Kings,
Chera, Chozha and Pandiya. Sakthi wanted to relieve the distress of the
people caused by the martial arts. To this end, Marachchan and Ayyan did
penance and got this wonderful medical science Varmam (Thanuology)
from Lord Siva (Thanu). Today it is practised by a few families in Nanjil
Nadu (in South India).
(Price
Rs.100/$6/5)
Philosophy of
Thanuology (Varma Kuravanji): Thanuology is a unique
Medical Science, dealing with the impact ailments and their treatments. It
is a blind area to be exploited and explored for the health-care of
man-kind. The Presence of Prana Vayu (oxygen) in the 72,000 nerves
in the human physique is called Life force. Due to various impacts the
nerve centres are affected. Initially the flow of Prana is
obstructed and in course of time, ailments arise in accordance with the
nature of the nerve-centre and the magnitude of the impact. This treatise
provides the readers with the techniques of Varmams, its
classifications, its gender, diseases arising from the impacts and also
its philosophical aspects as narrated by Shiva to Sakthi. Illustrated with
graphic charts and diagrams, the contents of the book are found to be
educative and a joy to travel through.
(Price
Rs.100/$6/5)
Concept of Thanuology
: This work is based on, "Varma Saari" which deals with the
evolution of the universe, embryology, important
life-centres/nerve-centres (Varmams), its signs and symptoms,
ordinary and extra-ordinary type of life-centres, retrieval methods,
methods of treatment, the code of conduct of Practitioners (Thanuologists)
and the learning student. It has a mini pharmacopoeia, covering variety of
medical preparations for the health-care of mankind.
(Price
Rs.150/$9/8)
Vital Life Centres in
Thanuology : Out of the seventy two thousand life-centres
associated with the nervous system of the human physique, 108 life-centres
are important. Except the 12 Vital life centres that this book deals with,
the other 96 life centres have close relationship with 96 Thathuvams which
help smooth functioning of human body. Twelve Vital life centres are
located on the main nerve centres, passing through six plexus
(Aatharams). It narrates its locations, signs and symptoms if
affected, its retrieval methods, treatments, series of suitable medicines
etc. This book also examines critically the names of vital life centres
and also their numbers with reference to its relevant treatises on
"Nithanam" and "Sasthiram".
(Price
Rs.100/$6/5)
Medium
Life-Centres in Thanuology : Thanuology is the science of
life-force in the human physique and the treatment when it is affected
with impacts. Medium life-centres (Thodu Varmam), are ninety six in
number. Their existence is based on the ninety six thathuwams of the human
physique. These ninety six medium life centres (Thodu Varmam), are
the peculiar life-centres that are difficult to name and locate them
properly under normal circumstances. Efforts have been made in this book
to name the ninety-six medium centres, the time limit to retrieve the
victims, the signs and symptoms when affected, the diseases that are
caused when defection occur to these life centres, the possible retrieval
methods, treatments and the different medicinal preparations.
(Price
Rs.100/$6/5)
Striking Nerve-Centres in Thanuology
: This treatise on Thanuology (Varmam),deals with impacts
at striking life-centres caused by accidents and the appropriate therapy
and treatment. These striking life centres are eight in number. They are
vulnerable points and should be understood
These
striking life centres are eight in number. They are vulnerable points and
should be understood by the practitioners of Thanuology (Varmam).
These life-centres come under the category of inner (cell)
life-centres.
The techniques of Thanuology
are apt materials for sports medicine also. Some of the articles of the
book are interesting. It is a useful treatise to both general medical
pracititioners and sports medical practitioners.
(Price
Rs.150/$9/8)
Measures of
impacts in Thanuology : Different types of impacts cause
disorders to nerve centres in the physique. These impacts are either
minor, medium, major or fatal in nature. When impact occurs to
nerve-centres, it is the cause for the ailments in due time. The measure
of impact to nerves centres indicates not only duration of the survival of
the victim, but also the severity and types of his diseases. This book is
a guide to Thanuologist to measure the life span of accident victims.
Without the knowledge of measure of impact, if one enters into treatment
of accident victims, it will land him in difficulties and
despair.
(Price
Rs.100/$6/5)
Signet of Thanuology
: Thanuology (Varmam) is a medical science meant for cure
of impact ailments, caused by accidents. In fact, afflictions are caused
to the physique, mind and life. This book is divided into two parts. The
first part deals with twenty three important life-centres, and is written
in simple style to help the students and general public understand the
various aspects of these life-centres clearly. The second part deals with
five key retrival devices. A word of caution is, that wrong usage of this
art will bring misery to the practitioners. For want of knowledge of this
unique medical science, millions of people all over the world suffer from
impact ailments. It is high time that the people should understand the
gravity of this health problem, and act promptly to institutionalise this
science by opening colleges, hospitals, pharmaceuticals and research
centres so that the health care of mankind can be adequately safe guarded
without further loss of time.
(Price
Rs.500/$30/25)
Diseases in Thanuology
- (Vol. I) : This volume deals with a fraction of the total
diseases that arise on account of impact to various nerve-centres in the
human physique. The causative factors for vaious diseases, as assigned by
Thanuology is quite new to the modern medical system. It is a meaningful
sphere which the world of medical sciences has to ponder over. There is
origin for every disease. This treatise deals with eye diseases, caused by
impacts to Varmam (nerve-centres). It is because the nerves in the human
phy caused by impacts to Varmam (nerve-centres). It is because the nerves
in the human physique are very sensitive, and if the nerve centres are
inflicted due to accidents, it gives room for many diseases. Of the
ailments, eye diseases command vital importance as that of eyes to man.
Types of eye-diseases, caused by impacts to important region of the
physique, the treatments and the various forms of medicine prescribed are
covered in this treatise. It is equally important to general practitioners
and also the eye specialists who treat the eye diseases without being
concerned with its origin. This treatise is sastric and its contents are
really an eye-opener to the medical world.
Genital organ of female is
vulnerable to many diseases owing to its delicate nature and its
functioning. The majority of the gynecological diseases arises owing to
promiscuous sexual behaviour. So also inflictions to nerve centres of the
genital organ occur on account of improper techniques, employed during
delivery by the midwives and doctors. During pregnancy, the woman receives
nervous impact due to choosing irregular posture and other abnormalities.
Impact at inbaveli (a typical nerve centre) affects the baby and
the mother in a peculiar manner.
Impacts to the life-centres become chronic
illness if they are either serious in nature or are not treated due to
negligence. If the impacts occur to vital life-centres, it will be fatal;
medium-life centres, it renders the victim unconscious and also suffer
from ailments. Impacts to joints, top of the head, outer and inner ears,
nose, arm, elbow, uterus, depression on the neck, chest, breast, sternum,
epigatrium, liver, spleen, lungs, intestine, abdomen, ribs, pelvis, hip
joint, anus, testicles, kidney, ankle etc., will give rise to chronic
ailments. Appropriate medicines are laid down for use in patient for
relief, besides the diet restrictions that help speed up cure of the
ailments. Treatments for impacts, sustained by children, disorder of
spinal cord, umbilicus and the infliction of top (of the head) are some
other items of this book.
(Price
Rs.100/$6/5)
Pulse reading in
Thanuology : Pulse reading is an important technique, employed in
the medical science of Thanuology to diagnose the impact ailments. Though
the subject of Pulse Reading is related to the Three humours in the human
physique, as has been employed in other Indian Medical Sciences, the
techniques employed in treatises of Thanuology are special and peculiar.
For instance, the various positions of the eye balls of the victim will
indicate as to which part of the body has been affected, and the
seriousness or otherwise of the impact, besides helping to denote the
limitations of victims life, and the age of the impact. The contents of
this book are the essence of the extracts of various treatises on
Thanuology. It is not the end but a means of pulse study. This book is
very useful to Thanuologists to diagnose the disease of patients under the
influence of impact to nerve-centres.
(Price
Rs.100/$6/5)
Pharmacopoeia in
Thanuology : The medical science of Thanuology deals with
hundreds of diseases, arising due to disorder of nerve centres, caused by
impacts. Each nerve-centre is subject to diseases according to the
magnitude of this impact and the nature of the constitution of the
victims. Treatment does not end with that of massage, meditation and
retrieval methods. But the treatment is complete when different medicines
are given internally and externally to the patients. So also medicines are
of different shades, types and strengths. Thousands of formulae are
prescribed with reference to the nature of the impact and the arising
diseases due to them. The formulae given in this book are special and
peculiar to this medical science. If the Thanuologist is to be successful,
he should have complete practical knowledge of the preparation of various
medicines. Tens of thousands of formulae are found in hundreds of
treatises. Some of the important preparations are given in this book for
the use of practitioners of the medical
science.(Price Rs.300/$18/15)
Wisdom on dislocations,
breakages and damages in Thanuology : Nerve-centres are the life regions
of the body. They pass through bones, muscles, joints and other internal
organs of the human physique. Impacts to nerve-centres of the physique
cause dislocations, breakage and damages. Its severity depends on the
magnitude of the impact. This treatise deals with some of the dislocations
of ball and socket, joints, fractures of bones, ribs, skull, bones of the
hands and legs etc. It deals with the seriousness or otherwise of damages,
and the position of Milk of Love. It is a useful handbook for
practitioners of Thanuology (Varmam). A large number of Medical
preparations essentially required to treat dislocations of joints,
fractures and damages are given in this book.
(Price
Rs.150/$9/8)
Retrieval Techniques in
Thanuology (Varmam) : This treatise on Thanuology
(Varmam) is divided into six parts. The first part consists of the
locations, signs and symptoms and the effect of 108 important life-centres
if affected. The second part deals with the retrieval methods employed on
victims who are under the impact of vital-life centres and the types of
treatment and the medicines for cure. The third part comprises of the
retrieval techniques rendered to recover the victim who is affected by
medium life-centres, and also special retrieval methods employed in case
the victim happens to be a pregnant woman. The fourth part covers the
various techniques, used by the experienced Thanuologists in the case of a
patient who is disabled due to different afflictions to bones, joints and
organs and its malfunctioning. The fifth part is devoted to explain the
post effects to impacts formed on important regions such as head, chest
etc. It also depicts clearly the signs and symptoms of death. Lastly sixth
part narrates the effects of Karma and the ways and means to find
out remedy by santhi and rendering medicines to the affected
persons.
(Price
Rs.150/$9/8)
Intellection in
Thanuology : This book is a rare treatise on Thanuology
(Varmam) and has been divided into three parts. The first part
deals with fundamentals of Thanuology (Varmam), and the location of
life centres. The Second part covers the formation of body, the signs and
symptoms of inflictions caused to the life-centres in broad five regions
of the human body; and the treatment for cure of hundreds of diseases
including cancer, AIDS etc, caused by hits, cuts, breakages and damages to
nerve centres. The third part is concerned with nerves, key to
nerve-centres (Adangals), Thrinaadi life-centres, common quality of
the affected life centres, special treatments on pregnant lady, affected
by nerve centres, and finally the different types of medicinal
preparations such as decoction, oils, medicated ghee, paste, fomentation,
relaxal oils, tetanus oils, confections, powder etc. The striking feature
is that this treatise provides general treatment to five regions of the
body individually, if affected by impacts to nerves centres.
(Price
Rs.150/$9/8)
Nerve Injury In
Thanuology : The book is a rare treatise, based on ancient
Sasthram on Varmam (Thanuology) which deals with disabilities arising due
o impact, breakage, twisting, dislocation, injury to various nerves in the
human physique. Our ancients of the hoary past, have appropriately named
each of the nerves from top to bottom of the human physique including
inner organs, so beautifully that we will wonder about their knowledge of
nervous system.
They have also very carefully
brought out the fact that in case no treatment is given in time, the
diseases that arise have been keenly observed and laid down. Type of
treatment, prescribed for each ailment is another specialised aspect. They
have made out the disabilities that may arise in other regions, if nerve
in one region is affected. The book also gives the general symptoms if the
nerves are affected by impacts due to accidents etc.
This volume deals with general
symptoms if nerves are injured by impacts. The person who has impact in
his nerves suffers due to poisons getting into his head. On the treatment
side, the type of bandages, massages, the kinds of oil preparations,
decoctions, snuff, confections, powders, kavalam etc., are
systematically given to practitioners to make use of. This book will serve
as panacea for students, Varma Medical practitioners, Researchers
and Medical Students.
(Price
Rs.2500/$150/120)
Ground Work of
Thanuology : This treatise is based on the ancient work Varma
Vimanam, dealing with 828 nerve centres (Varmams) of human physique.

108 nerve centres in the head region. The 2nd part covers 438 nerve
centres of chest region. The 3rd part comprises of 102 nerve centres of
the abdominal part. The 4th part consists of 170 nerve centres of the
limbs. The 5th part is concerned with 120 nerve centres of the joints. The
6th part deals with various medicines used for the treatment of impact
ailments. The name of each nerve-centre is named, located and the signs
and symptoms that arise when affected are given. The post effects of nerve
centres if not treated or not thoroughly treated, different types of
treatments such as Retrieval method, massage, bandages, fomentation,
plaster. All are systematically given.
The Author has specifically
stated that interference with nerves in the physique will have its adverse
effect on the functions of the body. In Surgery, human parts are
considered as spare parts similar to automobiles. It is really a harmful
act. It is because the function of the human body are holistic and a
net-work of nervous systems. It is a rare publication covering about 500
pages useful for students, scholars and researchers.
(Price
Rs.10,000/$1000/750)
Crescent of Thanuology
: As that of different Asaras in yoga are recommended for people
to eleminate the accumulated poisons, created in our body due to
unsuitable food, irregular life style, variation in climatic conditions,
poisonous bites etc., the poison created due to impact to life centres of
the body, is removed by therapies resorted to in Thanuology (Varmam).
Thanuology (Varmam) is another Tamilian medical science second to Siddha
Medicine. The Human body is a net work of 72,000 nerves. The junctions of
each nerve form the life - centre (Varmam). Of which, 828 life centres are
important. It is dealt with in "Varma Vimanam". These life -
centres are grouped as vital life centres, Medium life centres, Striking
life centres. Inner life centres etc,. Depending on the measure of impact
at life centres, different ailments arise. If no proper treatment is given
in time, the victims life span is shortened, besides exposing them in
series of diseases.
By the defection to
life-centres, caused by accidents about 20 % of the people all over the
world suffer. The treatment under Thanuology (Varmam) covers different
medicines/Theraphis as laid down in hundreds of ancient treatises in the
form of poems in Tamil Language.
Thanuology (Varmam) is the
master art of all martial arts. All martial arts are used for offence and
defence purposes. Where as Varmam is used to cure the impact ailments
caused to human beings. It is a medical science, similar to other Indian
systems of medicine.
Thanuology (Varmam) is an
independent medical System in India. It has the features of a typical
medical science. But it is different from siddha system of medicine,
Accupuncture, Accu pressure in many respects.
Varmam has big tradition. This
medical system was handled in many centuries by a few families in
Kanyakumari District which was under the earst while Travancore
state.
By 1956, the Indian states were
reorganised on linguistic basis. As a result some Tamil speaking districts
of then Travancore were merged with Tamilnadu. Thereafter Varmam came to
Tamilnadu. This medical system deals with different aspects such as
origin, philosophy, fundamentals, measure of impacts, name of
life-centres, signs and system of life centres if affected, treatment to
life centres, pharmocology, pulse reading etc.,
This book is the translation of
the Tamil work Varma Peroli, dealing with 5 small treatises viz.,
Nantheswar Vaidyyam - 33, Varma Beeranki
- 16, Pai bootha Varmam, Varma Beeranki - 50, Varma Beerangi -
100.
The development of foetus,
Pulse reading, Important name of life centres, its treatment and messages,
different form of medicines such as oils, ghee, confections, fomentations,
snuff, decoctions, paste, etc., required for treatment of types of impacts
are dealt with in the above five treatises.
(Price
Rs.300/$18/15)
Mirror of Thanuology: Varmam
(Thanuology) which is another medical science is in existence in Tamilnadu
from time immemorial. Men get involved in accidents of sort knowingly or
unknowingly and suffer from
impact ailments. The treatment, by Varmam is the appropriate medical
treatment which will give adequate relief to bone fracture, joint
dislocation, affectation of inner organs etc.,
In this book 96 fundamentals of
human constitution is explained apart from the development of foetus in to
baby, location of 72,000 nerves in the physic.
It explains the location of 12
vital life centres, 96 medium life centres. The signs and symptoms of
impacts, if afected are vividly explained. The special feature is that
this book indicates the time limit, when the impact is to be
treated.
The number of life centres for
each of the vatham, Pitham and Kapham are given, besides the pulse
reading.
Once these impacts are not
properly treated, these impacts assume chronic ailments such as Asthma,
T.B., Arthritiis, etc.,
Many medical preparations as
that of decoctions, oils, ghee, powder, paste, Relaxil oil, Fracture
healing oil, sinus oil, etc, are systematically given for treatment
ailments.
This is a rare work and an
asset for Varma learners, practitioners and scholars.

BOOKS ON SPORTS
MEDICINE
(By Prof. Dr. S.
Chidambarathanu Pillai)
WORLD SPORTS
REVOLUTION
The sports activities have, in recent
years, gained momentum in all nations of the world. Still, a lot of areas
require reformation, and technological improvement. The book on World
Sports Revolution covers up source development, Sports engineering and
technology, stadium development, standardisation of sports goods and
services, social security schemes, International sports development fund,
sports medicine etc. These will certainly enhance the standard of world
games :
Paradoxically the present sports
medicine in vogue is a new concept and requires adequate development.
Thanuology (Varmam) is an ancient medical science, associated with
Tamilian culture. The Hindu dt. 23.6.84 reported that it would be good
if Govt. comes forward to develop Thanuology through institutions and
hospitals so that its benefits will not only reach the sports world but
also elevate this indigenous system of medicine to the international
forum". It is high time to develop a world university to popularise sports
medical education and medical services in a fitting manner. The
International Olympic Committee should constitute a special committee to
draw a master plan on the lines stated above to develop sports activities
with representations of the nations of the world. The schemes will help
opening of new departments in each nation to discharge multifarious
functions. Hundreds of educational and research Institutes are to come up
to produce qualitative and quantitative improvements on sports and their
matters. Thousands of works units are to come up generating employment
opportunities for millions of employees in all the member nations as well
as the IOC level.
To sum up the IOC has a meaningful
future, much more brighter than the activites of UNO in the aim, schemes,
execution, and achievements.

INDIAN SPORTS MEDICAL
SCIENCE
Thanuology (Varmam) is the apt
medical science that can be employed to cure the ailments of sports
persons. Presently Allopathic medical science is manipulated and used as
Sports medicine. It does not help to improve physical powers to win
laurels in the international games.
Every one knows that Dravidian land is
the bed rock of the 64 arts which no other country in the world can boast
of. One such art is of Varmam. At the outset, I would like to make
it clear that there is no relationship between Varma system of medicine
and Acupuncture and acupressure. These arts are of recent origin. I stress
this point with my experience of 45 years in the field and hailing from a
family of 46 generations dedicated to Siddha medicine. It will be better
if people are made aware of it.
Varma system of medicine has a
special character and grammar of its own. Varmam assumes the role
of a mother of the martial arts. It is an art based on scientific
facts.
Life is propelled by Prana Vayu
(Oxygen) in the human physique. It gives lifeLife is propelled by Prana
Vayu (Oxygen) in the human physique. It gives life energy to the
72,000 nerves found in the human body. When the flow of Prana Vayu
(Oxygen) is obstructed, life is at stake. In the human body, there are
secret nerve centres in the bones, internal organs, tissues, nerves,
joints and the like, hidden from naked eye. These secret locations are
known as Marmam and later came to be called Varmam.
Nerve centres are impaired due to
impacts on account of thrashing, attack, kick, beating, knock, cuts etc.
In consequence, normally health condition titillates. The patients suffer
from swelling, swooning, loss of blood, inability, contusion,
bone-fracture, dislodging of joints and even death. These are some of the
external signs and symptoms. Loss of consciousness, inability to work,
tissues going astray, shattering of internal organs, uneasiness and the
like are noticeable internal symptoms, in respect of those affected in
this way. Varmam impacts pervade all the 32 organs in the human
body and give rise to T.B., Asthma, Blood pressure, Heart attack etc. One
of the main causes for AIDS is the impact ailments.
Before treatment is given to patients,
it is imperative to diagnose the origin of the disease, the movement of
the organs, the nature of affectation in the nerves, signs and symptoms,
health-condition, classification, whether the case falls under ordinary or
extraordinary nature.
Application and administration of the
prescribed oil, powders, ghee, decoction and Lehyam will work wonders and
yield satisfactory results.
Apart from the above general aspects,
this books contains the special aspects viz., Yoga & well being,
Nervous function, Pulse reading, Retrieval methods, Medical preparations
for injury as well as health and strength and Diet (both internal and
external) for health and extra stamina.

BOOKS ON INVENTORY
MANAGEMENT
(By Dr. S. Chidambarathanu
Pillai.)
1. Introduction
to Inventory Management : In his preface, the Author points out
that, the people belonging to particularly underdeveloped and developing
nations have realised that, in the multifarious inventories of the various
stores set-ups, stores valuing billions of Dollars are held up due to
various reasons. The reasons for holding stock, exceeding its rational
level need detailed study. Unless personnel employed in such problematic
areas are adequately exposed to techniques of efficient Inventory
Management, the state of affairs cannot be corrected. So long as the
Management also realises the bare ncessary to employ trained hands with

The cost of transportation
accounts for nearly 20 percent of the cost of Stores procured. The
Officers in charge of the functions of clearance, booking and claims
should therefore have a sound knowledge of the various aspects of the
transport, its principal methods of transport (Road, Rail, Canal,
coastwise-overseas shipping, Air, Post etc.), type of packing, its
regulations and specifications, rates, both standard and exceptional;
rebates and allowance; the principle of agreed charges, the preferring of
claims and the responsibility of the different carriers, their tariffs
etc., and the responsibility of the different carriers, their tariffs

As an organisation grows in
size and activities, the transportation becomes very crucial and the
effectiveness depends upon the knowledge of alternatives, their rates,
schedules as well as advantages and disadvantages.
The ownership of goods while in
transit, stoppage of goods, carriers lien, legal aspects of delay ,
deviations of transit, carriers, claims etc., are important aspects that
the Transport Manager in charge must be
aware of.
A good packing of stores should
be taken care of and must ensure two basic aspects. It must protect goods
from its own inherent weaknesses and from the rigours of the distribution
systems. Another is that it must enclose the product in such a way as to
optimise the total cost of distribution to an acceptable level of damage.

14. Legal Aspects of
Inventory Management : Ignorance of law is of no excuse. It is
therefore necessary to understand the salient features of various
legislations to manage the business effectively and efficiently.
Generally, the functions of the Materials Management can be divided into
two main wings, viz. Purchase Management and Inventory Management. Both
the functions are complimentary. The legal aspects of Purchase Management
is inter-connected with the Inventory Management. In other words, we
cannot demorcate the legal aspects of Purchase Wing from that of Inventory
Management.
Some areas of Inventory
Management which attract legal complications are Goods transit, Damage and
loss of stores, wharfages, quality of stores, Rejections of Stores,
Delivery period, Disposal of Stores found excess, rejected and damaged,
variations arising from Rate of Sales-tax octroi Duty, carriers, Tariff,
Excise Duty, Customs Duty, Port dues, carriers charges etc. Failure of
supply during the tenure of Guarantee/Warantee period and governed by Test
Certificate, Rebate/Discount on Supply and Disposals of Sales of Scraps,
etc.
We store goods of dangerous
nature including Petroleum products, carboides, all regulations of the
Government and the local governments are to be strictly adhered to. Again
comes the environmental, pollution and public nuisance Acts which need
strict observance. Industrial/Factory Act, Vehicle Act, various
Transportation Act, are to be closely followed so that the interest of the
organisation may not be affected and loss incurred.
The Inventory activities have
assumed major importance owing to the size and complexities of trade and
commerce. Further, one will find that while a store-personnel is promoted
on higher posts, he is supposed to know more and more of the legal aspects
of his functions to become a successful Manager. If his decision lacks in
the reasoning power, his action will be questioned in the Court of
Law.
On Many occasions, the
rejection of stores, due to belated deliveries and technical grounds
attract objections from Suppliers. It may finally be referred to Court of
Law for settlement, if there is no smooth agreement arrived at by the
consignor and consignee.
Excise-duty and customs duty
are charged as applicable being governed by Statutory Law. Still it will
lead to difference of opinion when is an increase in such
duties.
Low of claims, Insurance Act,
Customs Act are also some other parameters that the Inventory personnel
should be acquainted with so that the interest of the organisation can be
safe-guarded.

Matrix: Most of the present practising professionals of Materials
Management all over the world feel that, present day, management of
materials is affected by Inventory Cost, Government regulations, credit
squeeze, change in the technological growth and other factors. Most of
these cannot be avoidable. Hence an organised approach is required for
improving the efficiency of Material function.
The essence of monitoring the
efficiency of Materials Management lies in identification of key result
areas, setting standards and constantly reviewing of the performance
against standards. Again the standards set in are not static. A dynamic
review of the standards is essential for constant improvement. The
periodical returns from different levels will help constant touch with the
upto date progress of works. There are tangible and intangible factors
which will improve the overall efficiency of Materials function.
